2023 BXT 'Wheeler' Chardonnay Blanc de Blanc

Planted on a gravelly alluvial fan of Pleasanton loam, 50-year-old Wente Clone Chardonnay on AXR-1 remains firmly planted, having survived phylloxera that swept through the California wine industry 30 years ago. The Chardonnay was our last pick of the 2023 and was hand-harvested on September 16th. The wine was gently whole-cluster pressed, handled oxidatively, and fermented in a large-format, neutral French oak barrel. The wine was assembled and hand-bottled without fining or filtration to reach 5 bars of atmospheric pressure. The wine was left to age in the bottle for 18 months before being hand-riddled and disgorged without sulfur or dosage.

BXT is an exploration of Californian viticulture through the lens of traditionally made sparkling wine. Vines are personally hand farmed with additional grapes being sourced from talented, passionate growers across unique sites in California. Small Batch.
