2022 Caleb Leisure, Other Hand, Red Blend

"In '22, I aimed to make a fresher, lighter version of what I made from this vineyard in '21. I used more whole cluster, and intoduced a few carbonic components to the wine. I was also able to add Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre into this whole-vineyard field blend. I've been sitting on this one until I moved through most of the '21 and the time in bottle has been generous."

TASTING NOTES: Bright dark fruit, graphite, flowers

PRODUCTION NOTES: Whole cluster ferment in qvevri and macro bin, pressed after 12 days in to qvevri

"Caleb Leisure’s winemaking is steeped in traditional Georgian winemaking methods. He is the only California winemaker using authentic Georgian qvevri in his process. In 2017 he buried 10 qvevri in the earthen cellar at the Coturri Winery, making wines that are steeped in tradition, while being very contemporary. Caleb is using organic and biodynamically grown California grapes. There are no additions or subtractions in the winemaking process."
