Vergano Americano Rosso Vermouth
An Americano is a traditional apéritif from Piedmont. A play on the French amér, it is similar to a Vermouth, but usually contains extra bitter components. Vergano's is made from the grape Grignolino that he gets from his niece-in-law, Nadia of Cascina Tavijn. Grapes are blended with raw alcohol steeped in sugar, wormwood, orange skin, gentian root and a ton of dry Italian pantry herbs. Served this on the rocks with a some soda and a slice of orange, it is a classic that never disappoints.
