2018 Michel Guignier Mystére de Rosé Beaujolais France
Michel Guignier's tart, lip smacking rosé of Gamay from younger vines (over 30 years old). 2018 was not as hot as recent years so expect a light and vibrant wine.
Michel Guignier is one of the legends of Beaujolais natural winemaking. He is famous for his holistic biodynamic farming which includes a small herd of Charolais cows whose manure, along with the previous vintage's must, goes into carefully prepared compost. At 63, he has been in the Beaujolais farming for 40 years. He was taught the 'chemical approach' though after beginning to question the polluting effects of glyphosates in the 90s he went organic in 2000 and quickly ended up at biodynamics. Today he boasts a true polycultural approach on his perch 500m above sea level; there are cereal grains, fruit trees, a vegetable garden and of course his small herd of cows.
